In university, people often find it intimidating to make friends, especially when so many people seem to have found their circle. As ambiverts, we find that directly approaching someone can be tricky and having some medium to do would be just the push we needed. Our project aims to help solve this problem by giving the user a platform to express their interests and then bond with other like minded people through an event that caters to these interests.
Our platform plan2gether helps people find events revolving around their interests and connects them to other people participating in these events. When searching for an event based on the interests they have provided, the platform returns a list of events, their description (when clicked on), their dates, event capacity and tags. Tags act as the keywords that describe an event. There is also a feature which lets the user create their own event and find friends that would want to join them. If the user wants to create an event, an integrated gemini API call will suggest potential events based on the description provided which they can choose to use or simply start from scratch. Once the user decides to join an event, they get added to a group chat for that event where they can interact with all participants, ask questions and get further details about the event. Bonding over something genuine and meaningful is much more likely to help people connect easily with other people as compared to a surface level interaction.
The user interface of this project was built using canva and the functionalities were implemented using react, json and gemini api integration. The time frame for the hackathon certainly pushed us to speed through this project which we found challenging. However, it also taught us to prioritize and manage our tasks accordingly
