Inspiration
the inspiration was seeing how much i struggled with procrastination because of a lack of organization. I want to help other break free of the cycle of procrastination and use technology to help people be the most productive versions of themselves.
What it does
Plan Your School helps students manage assignments in one organized planner. Students can manually add assignments, choose a course and priority, mark work complete, and save their planner after a refresh.
The project also connects to Google Classroom through Google OAuth. Users can load their courses, view published assignments, import an assignment into their planner, avoid duplicate imports, and open the original assignment in Google Classroom.
How we built it
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am especially proud of adding a Google Classroom integration: users can securely connect with Google OAuth, view their courses and assignments, import assignments into the planner, prevent duplicates, and return to the original Classroom assignment. for being a complete beginner Ive learned so much and am so proud of how far I've came in just a few months in software development.
What we learned
I learned how the front end and back end work together: HTML and CSS create the interface, JavaScript responds to user actions and updates the page, and Node.js/Express can securely communicate with external APIs. We also learned about Google OAuth, API permissions and scopes, environment variables, localStorage, Git, GitHub, debugging, and why secrets must NEVER be committed to a public repository.
What's next for Plan Your School
New features include a database to reliably store information of multiple clients like MongoDB. a notification/reminder system, and sorting assignments by priority from highest to lowest
