The reason why we created Plan Your Major is the confusing mess that is pomona.edu. When looking for classes that will fulfill your major requirements, it is very hard to get frustrated at all the options presented on one screen! There is nothing like Plan Your Major and it will prove helpful to many students at Pomona!
Plan Your Major works very simply: You select your major, you see all of the classes that you need to take, you select the classes you have already taken, then the website gives you the full list of classes you have taken and the classes that you need to take. Easy!
The main problems that we had involved trying to learn how to code the webpage to save the information into a database or just anyplace where we could retrieve the user's previous information. We don't have enough experience, but we tried!
Our major accomplishment was being able to code checkboxes and making a nice overall layout for the website.
This project required us to build upon previous knowledge and learn many, many new things about coding that we had never experienced before. We learned many new skills in HTML and that was the best part of the whole thing!
What we plan to do next is to add the rest of the majors and complete the listings of classes within those majors! We also want to make an option for people with double majors to choose two majors from the list and combine the courses. Then, we would like to expand this even further and create an option for people to add minors and see the courses they need for that! We have a lot of plans for this project, and hopefully we can continue to grow and work on it!
