Inspiration
My boyfriend loves planning on every trip we go and I am super spontaneous person. Every time, I sit down and plan something, it took a lot of effort for both side. Excel sheets are terrible for planning. On top of that, we cannot easily share our itinerary with a friend. Delivery format useful for one person does not ring a bell with another. No app on the market provides true collaborative multiplayer experience. Shared infinite whiteboard for your ideas to roam and then turn into a structure plan. Therefore, I chose to do this idea.
What it does
Users can create boards for free: input any social media links, or news and the it will automatically pop up in the interactive board. AI will analyze the shared contents and convert them into an interactive item available on the map and planning timeline.
From the board, users can then see the pins that are automatically created, and edit, update their schedule.
After that, users can share their board to others by make it public. By this way, if you are content creators or travel influencers, you can share your traveling ideas.
How we built it
-We built the application from scratch in a rapid two-week sprint using a full-stack TypeScript monolith with React on the front end and Node.js on the back end. The UI draws aesthetic inspiration from vintage blue typography styles. Under the hood, we integrated Model Context Protocol (MCP) architecture, enabling the AI to seamlessly interface with and orchestrate multiple external tools and services.
Challenges we ran into
While we want to keep the platform free for the community, recurring AI compute and API costs require long-term sustainability. We had to plan around unit economics, balancing a generous free tier with premium enterprise capabilities to offset hosting expenses.
Time is limited
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We finally pulled up the app and it is running.
What we learned
- We learned about the MCP AI tools part, and how to get users and design the best friendly usage app.
What's next for Plan together
- We need to get more users to understand our business and see how much people would like to use it. Since this is B to C, we would need to get more users and real feedbacks.
Gain traction with open-source self-hostable version and limited functionality free cloud-native version. Extended functionality will be available on yearly subscription basis.
