Inspiration
Working for several years on Strong and Savage, our gymwear brand, gave us deep experience in user experience online, especially in how people discover, interact with, and buy fashion digitally.
It also made us aware of a growing issue: clothing waste. We saw how quickly people cycle through outfits buying, wearing once or twice, then moving on. At the same time, we noticed that many were already reselling their clothes through DMs, groups, or informal marketplaces but with a frustrating, unsafe, and inefficient process.
That’s what led us to create Plakkar: a platform that offers a better way to resell and buy fashion, with structure, trust, and simplicity.
What it does
Plakkar is a mobile platform for second-hand fashion, designed for both buyers and sellers. It enables users to: - List clothing easily - Negotiate offers and bundles - Chat directly within the app - Pay securely - Ship with integrated logistics
It’s a social and secure resale experience, tailored to the African market.
How we built it
We started by mapping real user behaviors directly in Figma, focusing on how people already buy and sell clothes through informal channels. From there, we designed a product that fits naturally into those habits while enhancing the experience.
Our MVP includes:
- A mobile-first user interface
- A secure transaction flow
- The ability to create bundles
- A clear and simple offer system
- In-app chat to connect buyers and sellers
- A light social layer to follow users and build trust
The backend is designed to be lean, modular, and scalable, allowing us to iterate quickly as we grow.
Challenges we ran into
- Turning informal, unstructured habits into a seamless digital journey
- Building user trust before any traction or reviews
- Balancing simplicity with functionality in a low-resource early-stage
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- A fully functional MVP ready for real users
- Strong early feedback from potential sellers and buyers
- Clear positioning and brand identity
- A committed team aligned on the mission
What we learned
- Trust is everything in second-hand: if it’s not safe and easy, people won’t use it
- Sellers want speed and visibility, not complexity
- A good resale app must feel like a mix of e-commerce and social media
- The African market is active — but underserved and ready to be structured
What's next for Plakkar
- Finalize beta testing and iterate based on feedback
- Launch marketing campaign focused on young urban sellers
- Build partnerships with logistics and payment providers
- Begin preparing for scale: funding, team, and technical growth
