Inspiration

We were inspired by Cookie Clicker and COMS' mascot, Gustavo.

What it does

It is an interactive game meant for entertainment, where the user's goal is to accumulate as many quacks from Gustavo and purchase properties to increase quacks--increasing Gustavo's happiness.

How we built it

Quacker Clicker was built on Visual Studio Codes, where we started with Java instead of JavaScript, as we had deeper knowledge of Java compared to our slight understanding of JS, CSS, and HTML. We separated the team to work on sprites and code, but soon ran into the issue of Java Swing, something we struggled heavily on. This ended up with us translating our Java into JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, which made the GUI simpler, but we had to relearn and extend our knowledge beyond high school AP Computer Science Principles.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into the challenge of time management, and the learning curve of Java and of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML as we switched our language. Furthermore, we had to handle path errors on Git, which required the team to solve experimentally. These issues caused burnout.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Although this was all our first Hackathons, so we did not have any other experiences to compare this to, we were proud of what we accomplished with 25 hours. Other than the game we created, our team was especially proud of our personal growth, and learning speed as we had to adapt to our obstacles.

What we learned

We all either learned or relearned JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for our game. Furthermore, we also had to learn how to manage our time in order to get a complete version of this game ready for submission.

What's next for Quacker Clicker

We plan to implement minigames within Quacker Clicker, expand shop items, and add a gacha option of themes to improve user experience.
