Project Writeup Note that I'm able to go back and edit this up until the submission deadline (hard cut-off at 2:00 PM EDT, Sunday afternoon). Please turn in your own project submission by midnight EDT, Saturday night even as just a placeholder that you go back and fill in closer to the submission deadline.
Inspiration Our team wanted to address the falling standards of social distancing. We've noticed a lot of people going to areas with a large density of people, and we wanted to solve that. What it does Our project address the challenge by showing people how many users are in an area. It helps people with their judgement, and can keep people safe, especially in this day and age with the extremely contagious COVID-19 virus.
How We built it Our team used python, html, and css. HTML and CSS were for our website's interface, while python was to generate the map. We don't have actual users yet, so we used placeholder values, which is why some points are in odd places. We plan to add real-time plotting in the future.
Challenges We ran into This was our first hackathon, and all of us had pretty much no experience with code. We learned with the numerous MakeSPP workshops, and bolstered our skills in HTML, CSS, JS, and Python! These workshops helped us overcome these numerous challenges.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of We're proud of what we made during the workshops, like the chat app. We did not know we were capable of anything close to that, but through MakeSPP, a whole new path has been opened up for us. We're incredibly proud of this project, and we put our heart and soul into it.
What I learned We learned Python, JS, HTML, CSS, and machine learning! This wide array of skills helped us so much when making our project, and without it, I honestly don't know what this would look like.
What's next for "Social Density"? We want to add real-time plotting through flask and django, and we want to accurately get the location of users, and be able to deploy this as an app to keep everyone safe!
