Inspiration

Reddit's r/place April Fools event

What it does

It allows for multiple users to collaborate and draw on a public canvas, while syncing real-time

How I built it

The backend is written in Rust using the Axum web framework, using Redis to store the canvas state The frontend is a NextJS + TailwindCSS project, which connects to the backend over WebSocket

Challenges I ran into

Efficiently transmitting new data and storing the canvas in Redis

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I built the whole thing from scratch in 8 hours

What I learned

A ton about Axum and WebSockets in general
