Inspiration

Our inspiration is from the geography course we had taken in school this year. In this course, we had learned that only 1% of consumer buys are still in use after one year. This is because of strategies manufacturers use, specifically perceived and planned obsolescence. We knew we had to change this.

What it does

Our website collects a rating from a user based on a certain product. After a certain number of reviews, it will create an average of the ratings and create a PLA rating. This PLA rating will be placed on the front page of our product. We plan on using Amazon's database of products so users can review essentially any product. Our site is divided into three categories, recommended, unrecommended and popular products, so users can easily see how a product they are planning to buy impacts them and the environment.

How we built it

We used HTML5 and CSS3 to build this prototype.

Challenges we ran into

One of the challenges we had was limitations of knowledge in terms of coding. Not many of our group members knew how to code and we have only started learning recently, which may have use certain methods that weren't efficient when creating our website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of how the website looks and how it functions.

What we learned

We learned how important design to a user when creating any projects and we also learned how code can help contribute to solving large problems. We also learned valuable skills such as collaboration.

What's next for PLA (Product Life Analysis)

If this gets traction, we will learn more coding concepts and create a more developed version with a larger database of products and more features for a better user experience.
