Pizzantra

Inspiration

Our inspiration came from our shared love for food, creativity, and design. We wanted to build something that felt warm, delicious, and real just like an actual pizza experience. Most restaurant websites are either cluttered or outdated, so we decided to create Pizzantra, a modern, clean, and responsive pizza website that gives users a taste of good design and good food at first glance.

What it does

Pizzantra is a responsive pizza brand website built using only HTML and CSS. It features:

A visually striking hero section with an inviting tagline.

A menu grid that showcases pizza varieties with interactive buttons.

A clean and informative about section that tells the brand story.

A pure CSS mobile dropdown navigation, avoiding JavaScript entirely. It’s simple, fast, and designed to look professional across all devices.

How we built it

We built Pizzantra using:

HTML5 for the structure

CSS3 for all styling, gradients, and animations

Google Fonts (Lobster + Poppins) for personality and readability

A responsive grid system for the pizza menu We also used color psychology deep red and golden tones to represent warmth, energy, and appetite.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was creating a fully responsive navigation menu without JavaScript. It took several layout adjustments and CSS-only tricks (like the checkbox hack) to get it working smoothly. Another challenge was ensuring image scaling and consistent spacing across devices, which required testing multiple breakpoints.

Building a visually engaging website using only HTML and CSS

Designing a fully responsive layout that adapts beautifully to mobile and desktop

Creating a professional restaurant brand look from scratch

Working effectively as a two-person team (Zeem & Benedicta) with shared design decisions

What we learned

We learned the importance of collaboration, attention to visual detail, and responsive design principles. We also discovered how powerful CSS can be especially when used creatively and how simple elements can create rich user experiences without any JavaScript.
