Inspiration
Online education has become increasingly popular and necessary in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. While many students may thrive in individual learning environments, others struggle to stay motivated or engaged. With the addition of offering group prizes, our education website aims to incentivize teamwork and promote collaborative learning among students, making online education more engaging and fun for everyone involved.
What it does
Welcome to our latest development post for our education website that incentivizes teamwork and promotes collaborative learning among students. As we all know, learning is not just an individual process, but it can also be a collaborative effort. With our unique feature, we aim to promote teamwork and encourage students to work together to achieve common goals. Our platform now allows teachers to organize group prizes that can be earned by all students in a particular class, provided that they work together and complete their homework as a team.
Here's how it works:
Teachers can set up group prizes: Teachers can create group prizes that can be earned by all students in a class. These prizes could be anything from a pizza party to a movie night, or academic incentives such as extra credit.
Students must work together: To earn the group prize, all students in the class must work together to complete their coursework. This means that every student must do their part and contribute to the group effort.
The teacher monitors progress: The teacher can monitor the progress of each student and the class as a whole. They can track which students are contributing and which ones are falling behind, and offer additional support where needed.
The group earns the prize: Once all students in the class have completed their homework, the group earns the prize. This incentivizes teamwork and encourages students to work together to achieve a common goal.
We believe that this feature will make learning more engaging and fun for students. It not only promotes teamwork but also encourages students to take responsibility for their learning and contribute to the success of their classmates. Moreover, it provides an opportunity for teachers to monitor their students' progress and offer additional support where needed.
How we built it
We built our website using a combination of CSS, HTML, Bootstrap, and JavaScript. We used HTML to create the structure of our website and code the progress bar. We used CSS to style the site and Bootstrap was used to make our website responsive and user friendly. GitHub was used to manage our code and collaborate as a team. Finally, we used JavaScript to add dynamic features to our website, such as interactive elements. By utilizing these tools, we were able to create a functional and visually appealing website that met all of our competition requirements.
Challenges we ran into
As a team, we faced a few challenges when coding our website. The biggest one was learning PHP, which was a completely new coding language for all of us. We spent a lot of time researching and practicing it until we felt comfortable enough to implement it into our website. Another major challenge was the 24-hour time restraint during our competition. We had to work quickly and efficiently, dividing up tasks and communicating effectively to ensure that we met our deadline.
Accomplishments that we're proud of and what we learned
As four college first-year students, putting together and coding a website was a challenging but rewarding experience. We learned so much from each other, from teamwork and communication to problem-solving and time management. We felt a sense of accomplishment seeing our website come to life online, and gained a deeper understanding of website design and coding languages. This project has brought us closer together as a team and taught us valuable skills that we can apply in future academic and professional endeavors.
What's next for Pizza Party
The next step for us is to expand and update specific features to meet the evolving needs of students and teachers. Gathering feedback from users will be essential to identify areas for improvement and new features that could be added. Additionally, we see marketing and promoting our website to reach a wider audience as a focus in the near future.
