Inspiration
Pizza Panic was inspired by my love for strategy games and the idea of turning something familiar into something unexpected. I wanted to create a game that combined the strategic decision-making of tower defense games with the fun and personality of a pizza shop. The concept started with a simple question: what if pizza toppings were the heroes defending a restaurant from rival chefs? From there, Pizza Panic grew into a game that blends humor, strategy, and creativity into one experience.
What it does
Pizza Panic is a tower defense game where players protect their pizza shop from waves of rival chefs. Players earn coins, place living pizza toppings on a battlefield grid, and build strategies to stop enemies before they reach the restaurant. At the same time, loyal customers arrive through the drive-through, creating a unique mix of business management and defense gameplay. As players progress, they unlock new toppings, discover powerful combinations, and face increasingly challenging enemies.
How we built it
The project started with designing the core gameplay loop and identifying what would make the experience unique. I created the game's world, characters, progression systems, and visual identity while focusing on making every part of the game feel connected to the pizza theme. Throughout development, I used concept art, gameplay mockups, design documentation, and iterative planning to refine the experience and create a clear vision for the final game.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was creating a game that felt familiar enough for players to understand quickly while still offering something original. Balancing the different toppings, enemy types, progression systems, and shop management mechanics required a lot of experimentation. Another challenge was ensuring that the game's humor and personality supported the gameplay rather than distracting from it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One accomplishment I'm especially proud of is creating a game concept that feels unique while remaining easy to understand. The living pizza toppings, rival chef enemies, drive-through scanner system, and pizza shop setting all work together to create a memorable identity. I'm also proud of the visual presentation, character designs, and progression systems that help bring the world of Pizza Panic to life.
What we learned
This project taught me the importance of player motivation and progression. I learned how game systems connect to one another and how small design decisions can have a large impact on the overall player experience. I also gained a deeper understanding of balancing gameplay, designing rewarding progression loops, and creating a clear vision that can be communicated through both visuals and documentation.
What's next for Pizza Panic
The future vision for Pizza Panic includes expanding the pizza shop customization system, adding new toppings and enemy types, introducing seasonal events, and developing deeper progression systems. I would also like to add endless survival modes, additional boss encounters, and more opportunities for players to experiment with unique strategies. My goal is to continue growing Pizza Panic into a larger experience while keeping the humor, creativity, and strategic gameplay that make it special.
