Inspiration

Finding something on a phone often means searching through multiple apps, folders, and menus. I wanted to make this faster and simpler with one universal search bar.

What it does

Pixo Search is a fast, private, on-device search app for Android. It searches apps, files, contacts, web results, shortcuts, and math from one place, with quick access to common system controls.

How we built it

I built Pixo Search as a native Android app with an on-device search index. Different data sources are unified into one search experience with category filters and instant results.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was keeping indexes fresh and up to date without constantly consuming CPU or battery, while still making search feel instant. Finding the right balance between indexing, resource usage, and search speed took significant iteration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of bringing apps, files, contacts, web, shortcuts, and utilities into one clean search experience while keeping personal search data on-device.

What we learned

This was my first time integrating RevenueCat, so I learned how to set up in-app subscriptions and connect monetization with the app. I also learned a lot about efficient indexing and balancing performance with battery usage.

What's next for Pixo Search - Fastest on-Device Search App

I plan to make Pixo Search more useful without losing its fast, private, on-device focus. Future additions may include weather, currency conversion, unit conversion, richer calculations, and more instant utilities, all accessible directly from the search bar. Paywall would be improved that converts more and more user to premium.
