Inspiration

I joined ShellHacks with two main goals: participate in Web Development / AI workshops, and meet new people in the process. Unfortunately due to other commitments, I decided not to join a team, as I would not be able to commit and dedicate as much time to a project as I would want to. In fact, I was not planning on submitting a project due to my limited availability.

Then, yesterday, I attended the Pixel Art workshop, which was part of a track I was not really planning to visit, and it was soooo much fun. I was able to dedicate a little bit of time to create Pixel art, and decided to create an animation illustrating the ShellHacks experience, where a girl brainstorms ideas for a project, then meets new people, they all have different talents and work together day and night to create a beautiful ShellHack!

Hopefully next year we will have an in person event and I'll be able to join a team and have the complete ShellHacks experience.

What it does

This simple pixel art illustrates one of the best parts of the ShellHacks experience - getting to know new people, collaborate and learn from each other.

How I built it

I started using Piskel and then decided to add more intricate animations, so I imported it to Aseprite to complete it.

Challenges I ran into

I need to work more with Aseprite and better understand some of its functionality, such as looping.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This is my very first time working with pixel art tools, and did not expect to be able to bring to live the ShellHacks story as planned; but for my first pixel art, I am happy with the outcome.

What I learned

I learned the basics of Piskel and Aseprite, but most importantly, I discover a new thing that I love... Pixel Art!

What's next for Pixie Shellhacks

Hopefully I'll be able to play more with Aseprite, and the 4 Pixel Hackers will be ready to tell a new story in ShellHacks 2021; who knows? Maybe our Pixel hackers will be part of an awesome game.
