Inspiration
Pixel Plaza is inspired by the casual idle-management game My Perfect Hotel.
What it does
Players build, expand, and manage an arcade entertainment empire using a character that handles entrance fees, buys machines, maintains facilities, and transports collected revenue. Gameplay involves balancing immediate manual maintenance tasks (like repairing machines, cleaning floors, and restocking restrooms) with long-term business expansion. Players unlock new machines and rooms to increase their revenues. It offers a long-term progression cycle including account leveling, prestige systems, and custom visual themes.
How we built it
For this prototype, we developed the project using Three.js; Meta AI and Gemini helped during the development of the game and the buildlog writing. Thanks to this we were able to reach a steady pace during the design phase.
Challenges we ran into
The setup of Three.js was a new framework for us, we had to understand the requirements and technicality of it. Once overcome the development was _ peaceful _ and cleaner.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of :
- To have designed a fast-paced core loop featuring rewarding visual, and feedback that creates a strong first impression.
- Created a visible progression model where every upgrade noticeably transforms the arcade facility.
- Learning a new framework and getting to skill up on Agentic AI.
- Being cautious on file sizes and readability of the code since it is in one single index file
What we learned
Three.js is definetly the biggest learning we got and we will be happy to continue using it for projects and website interactions !
Getting to know more about what Meta AI is capable of was also very impressive and a source of learning for us, the buildlog follow up Meta AI was writing for us based on our inputs of the work we did was a good pipeline.
What's next for Pixel Plaza: Arcade Odyssey
Couples of ideas we have from our design document that didn't make it for a prototype :
- Expanding to New Themes: Adapting the core gameplay framework to manage other venues such as shopping malls, cinemas, amusement parks, convention centers, or internet cafés.
- Multiplayer Features: Adding indirect multiplayer features like local leaderboards, arcade tournaments, and "friend" boosts.
- Franchise System: Allowing players to manage multiple arcade locations simultaneously.
- Facility Reputation System: Introducing customer reviews and reputation scores that influence foot traffic and unlock exclusive content.
- Narrative Expansion: Designing additional VIP characters and unique narrative quests to further diversify gameplay
