Inspiration For The Project

Many people around the world, especially university students, have experienced anxiety at some point in their lives. This can come in various forms, but we wanted to focus on the overwhelming anxiety from tasks, assignments, and projects and help minimize the stress they can cause.

What Pixel Pet Manager Does

Our Pixel Pet Manager is an adorable Pixel Pet that sits on your taskbar in front of all of your windows to calmly remind you about the tasks you need to complete. You get to choose your pet, give them a name, and that pet's task manager is created. If you click on your Pixel Pet, they will give you a nice message of encouragement or a funny saying. Each completed task increases your Pixel Pet's happiness level, so each time you complete a new task, you receive a wide array of different, encouraging quotes to help you get through your list of tasks based on their happiness. At any time, you can close your Pixel Pet's task manager window and click on your pet's name, which creates a new task manager.

How we Built Pixel Pet Manager

We built this program after much research by dividing up the parts. We created a task manager and quotes distributor for the Pixel Pet, made the assets, learned JFrame and UI and implemented the assets and UI, and finally wrote a main program to run all of the sub-programs.

Challenges and Accomplishments

Our team is very proud of our accomplishments in coding Java for this project. One member of our team had no experience in Java and the other two had only half of a semester. In the designated Brick Hack 9 24 hours, our team learned how to utilize the Java class JFrame and implement it into our own original coded task manager and we learned how to make UI and implement it into our program. We are proud of ourselves for learning so much Java in so little time and creating an entire program for task management from scratch.

What's next for Pixel Pet Manager

Our team may continue to implement this application even after Brick Hack 9 is over. All of us quite enjoy having a little Pixel Pet to accompany us on our project journeys.
