Inspiration

Pixel-Imperfect comes from a frustration with my own journey in art, especially pixel art. When I was constantly comparing my art to other people's pieces, by artists who seemed to have done it with less effort, it became discouraging to even try creating things of my own.

I wanted to explore how a tool could break the rules of conventional pixel art to encourage artists to both experiment with their art and to embrace the imperfections in their own work. The art never fully snaps perfectly onto the grid, and this is what makes it so liberating.

While it is mostly a fun and experimental tool, Pixel-Imperfect also serves as a visual reminder that art doesn't need to be perfect for it to be enjoyable and valuable.

Design process

The website was made entirely with Figma Make. Pixel art icons were made by me using Aseprite, and the title logo was made using Adobe Illustrator.
