Trick or Turret: Where Mobile Meets VR in Halloween Chaos
Inspiration
We wanted to create a truly social Halloween survival experience where mobile and VR players can team up seamlessly. Whether you’re waiting for friends or testing your solo skills, Trick or Turret offers instant fun and a welcoming entry point for new Horizon users—because surviving the zombie apocalypse is always better together.
What it does
Trick or Turret is a fast-paced, replayable action-survival game where players defend a haunted cabin from endless waves of monsters. Drop your weapon, and it becomes an autonomous turret—enabling dynamic co-op play. Designed for mobile-first but fully compatible with VR, it’s easy to learn in seconds, yet deep enough to keep players coming back.
How we built it
Using Meta Horizon’s GenAI tools, we generated the eerie forest environment, cabin, terrain, and enemy assets. Custom scripting powers the turret transformation, AI behaviors, and cross-platform matchmaking—all built natively in the Horizon editor to ensure smooth mobile performance.
Challenges we ran into
We wished for more animated enemy varieties and advanced particle systems to heighten visual intensity. Horizon’s current asset limitations pushed us to maximize creativity within the available toolkit.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a genuinely social, cross-platform experience where a mobile player can support a VR teammate’s defense in real time—proving that fun, teamwork, and accessibility can coexist in one world.
What we learned
Meta Horizon is a powerful, fast, and inclusive platform for building engaging experiences that connect players of all ages. With GenAI, even small teams can create rich, immersive worlds that feel alive.
What's next for Trick or Turret
We’ll add new enemy types, weapon upgrades, purchasable defenses, seasonal events, and enhanced NPC behaviors—keeping the Halloween spirit alive year-round while growing our community of loyal players.
