Inspiration
PixDraw was born from a passion for both pixel art and puzzle-solving. We wanted to create a unique experience that combines the creative expression of pixel art with the intellectual challenge of solving riddles. The concept of having players both create and solve puzzles felt like a perfect way to build an engaging community-driven game.
What it does
PixDraw is a creative collaborative puzzle game where players solve riddles by completing incomplete pixel art drawings. The game features:
- A pixel art editor for creating and solving puzzles
- An AI-powered verification system that analyzes completed drawings
- An XP-based progression system to reward creativity and problem-solving
- A community-driven platform where players can create and share puzzles
- A global leaderboard to track achievements
Players can either create puzzles by drawing incomplete pixel art and writing riddles, or solve existing puzzles by completing the artwork based on the given clues. The AI system verifies solutions by analyzing the completed drawings, making the game both creative and intellectually challenging.
How we built it
PixDraw was built using the Devvit library with TypeScript for a type-safe, maintainable codebase.
The development process was iterative:
- First, we built the core pixel art editor with basic drawing tools
- Then, we implemented the puzzle creation and solving mechanics
- Finally, we added the AI verification system and XP rewards
Challenges we ran into
- AI Verification Accuracy
- User Experience
- Making the pixel art editor intuitive.
- Performance Optimization
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built an intuitive pixel art editor that's accessible to artists
- Implemented an engaging XP system that rewards both creativity and problem-solving
- Created a seamless user experience that works across different devices
What we learned
- The importance of balancing simplicity with functionality in user interface design
- How to effectively integrate AI into a creative application while maintaining user control
- The significance of performance optimization in web-based applications
What's next for PixDraw
We're committed to continuously improving PixDraw based on community feedback, making it an even more engaging platform for creative puzzle-solving.
