Inspiration 💡

We believed that AI is one of the most powerful tools in the world. When we heard that this hackathon is something for your portfolio, we figured this was our chance to learn how to use AI’s capabilities. There are many networking platforms out there, however none of them have truly personalized their experience for the user to help them reach their goals, using AI. That’s when it clicked. Welcome to pivotAI.

What it does 💪

pivotAI allows users to find personalized jobs through an onboarding process powered by AI. Users get recommendations for an ideal job and a daily plan to achieve that role, along with steps to help reach their career goals. They can also apply for other jobs on the platform, submitting their CV and a personalized cover letter. Job owners can review and manage applications easily. Additionally, pivotAI offers groups where users can network, share posts, and comment on others' contributions, creating a supportive community environment.

How we built it 🔨

We built pivotAI using only the most modern technologies, the MERN (MongoDB, ExpressJS, ReactJS, NodeJS) Stack. In the backend, we used jwt for user authentication, OpenAI API for our extensive AI implementation, and express for our routing. In our frontend, we used Redux for global state managment. In order to create our sleek UI/UX we used MaterialUI for styling, Iconify for our Icons, as well as some custom CSS styling. We also used additional libraries such as react-toastify and fuse.js to give our users the best UI they could ask for.

Challenges we ran into 😥

During this hackathon, we ran into many problems such as time management and error debugging. Time management was definitely difficult towards the beginning, but towards the end, we started to pick up the pace and learn how to delegate tasks quickly and efficiently. Debugging errors were always challenging tasks, as small oversights could sometimes lead to bigger issues. However, we were able to support each other effectively, making sure that no problem would remain unsolved.

Accomplishments that we're proud of 👏

We both accomplished many major feats during the time of the hackathon, but we thought that the biggest one was implementing AI. We had never implemented AI before in an application and this had seemed like a daunting task at first. However, we were both able to work cohesively and solve it together.

What we learned 📖

Some of the major things that we learned throughout the hackathon was better time management and more effective collaboration. Time management was a major aspect that we improved on during the hackathon, as we were able to complete tasks more consistently and efficiently. We were also able to work together to tackle confusing errors or implement innovative features that we previously wouldn't have considered possible.

What's next for pivotAI 📅

Moving forward, pivotAI aims to enhance our job recommendation capabilities in order to provide more precise job matches based on more user skills/preferences. We plan to integrate more tools and features for the user to advance in their career, including virtual workshops and real-time job market analytics. These features will focus on users being more exposed to newer trends, in turn getting a better job outlook. Additionally, we plan on building a better community features, allowing for greater network opportunities and mentorship within communities.
