Inspiration
Scammers will generally prey on those unfamiliar with bank fraudulence and continue to be more and more creative with ways to create bank documents that look official, which can make it difficult for inexperienced individuals to see the tell tale differences on fake documents, and make it feel like a game of find the difference. In addition, individuals may have to do extensive searching for official bank statements to compare with their fake ones.
What it does
Our website makes it easy for users to verify bank documents by simply uploading their statement and selecting the document type. The system then displays the uploaded document alongside a verified fake version, allowing users to spot differences quickly and confidently.
How we built it
We used Github as the location of repository and all worked on separate aspects of the website.
Challenges we ran into
As beginner coders, building a website was a learning curve for us. We made some mistakes along the way in our code but eventually learned how to simplify it so we didn't make the same mistakes again.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We learned a new language and made a website for the first time so it was fulfilling to see it pay off in the end. We picked up valuable skills along the way that not only helped our website, but us as our coding advances.
What we learned
This project was a valuable learning experience for everyone in our group, as we are all beginners and this was our first time working with HTML. We had to figure out how to set up a website from scratch and connect all its functions, such as linking images to specific filters. Throughout this process, we gained a lot of hands-on experience and developed a better understanding of web development
What's next for Fraud Checker
Our website will feature filters that let users select a specific bank, unlocking a wider range of document and text/email comparison options. Additionally, the platform will quickly analyze uploaded documents and automatically highlight key differences between authentic and fraudulent versions, making fraud detection faster and more accessible.
