Inspiration

Everyone needs to use the bathroom, however, not all bathrooms are equal. Some are more accessible than others. Our project, Rest Assured - Pitt Campus Bathroom Rater, seeks to provide helpful information about the women’s bathrooms around campus.

What it does

Rest Assured - Pitt Campus Bathroom Rater provides information about the accessibility, cleanliness, and amenities such as whether there are menstrual products or baby changing stations in the women's bathrooms on a certain floor of a selected building.

How we built it

We used flask, python, html, css, javascript, SQLite to build this web app.

Challenges we ran into

Three out of four of our team members had no prior experience with Flask. They had to learn an entirely new framework in the space of 14 hours. We also encountered merge conflicts with GitHub and debugging issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

2/4 of our team did not have experience using Python, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and learned how to work with these new languages and tools. All of us learned more about Flask via YouTube tutorials such as the setup, overall flow, and lots of syntax.

What's next for Rest Assured - Pitt Campus Bathroom Rater

We aim to add more locations, specifically more building locations and bathrooms within the buildings themselves. Eventually, we also hope to expand to buildings beyond campus. In terms of particular informative features of our website, we intend to include more details on bathroom locations, for example, a safety rating and odor rating and to base such ratings on real user responses.
