Inspiration High-performing Formula 1 teams don’t win races by reacting late — they win by anticipating problems, coordinating flawlessly, and acting fast. In software teams, we saw the opposite pattern: blockers, overloaded engineers, and sprint risks are often visible in Jira data, but they’re only noticed after velocity drops or deadlines slip. Inspired by the precision and speed of Williams Racing, we set out to build an app that gives software teams the same real-time awareness and decision support as an F1 pit wall — directly inside Atlassian tools. What it does PitCrew AI transforms Jira sprints into a live race control system. Continuously monitors sprint health using Jira data Uses a Rovo AI “Race Engineer” to explain sprint risks and bottlenecks Recommends and executes corrective actions such as reassigning issues, adjusting priorities, or creating escalation tickets Automatically generates sprint “race debriefs” in Confluence after each sprint The result is faster reactions, fewer surprises, and smoother sprint execution — without leaving Atlassian. How we built it PitCrew AI is built entirely on Atlassian Forge, ensuring security, scalability, and seamless Atlassian integration. Forge Custom UI for interactive sprint dashboards Jira Software APIs to analyze sprint, issue, and workload data Confluence APIs to generate post-sprint summaries Rovo agents to reason about sprint health and explain risks in natural language Rovo actions to perform one-click Jira operations directly from AI recommendations Rovo Dev was used to rapidly iterate on agent prompts, actions, and behaviors, allowing us to test and refine the AI’s decision logic quickly. Challenges we ran into Translating raw Jira data into meaningful sprint health signals Designing AI explanations that were concise, actionable, and trustworthy Balancing automation with user control — ensuring actions are fast but never opaque Building a compelling experience while staying fully compliant with Forge and Runs on Atlassian requirements Each challenge pushed us to think more natively about Atlassian’s platform capabilities rather than bolting on external logic. Accomplishments that we're proud of Building a fully functional AI-driven sprint command center using only Forge Deep integration of Rovo agents and actions in real workflows Creating a memorable and intuitive metaphor that resonates with both engineers and managers Delivering an app that is demo-ready, secure, and marketplace-viable What we learned The most valuable AI tools explain why, not just what Rovo agents shine when paired with clear, limited actions Atlassian Forge encourages better architecture by design Strong metaphors dramatically improve product adoption and understanding What's next for PitCrew AI Bitbucket integration to factor CI/CD signals into sprint health Compass integration for service-level context and ownership Predictive sprint outcome modeling Industry-specific “race modes” for regulated or high-reliability teams Our long-term vision is to make PitCrew AI the standard way teams run fast, predictable, and resilient sprints on Atlassian.
