Inspiration
Pitch Perfect was inspired by the Powerpoint Karaoke game that was hosted during YHacks. Since the quality of the game was affected by the quality of the slides, we were frustrated by the fact it was hard to find good slides to play with.
What it does
PitchPerfect is an innovative and interactive tool designed to help students and professionals improve their presentation and public speaking skills in a fun and engaging way. Participants are given random slide decks on unfamiliar topics and must think on their feet to deliver a coherent and confident presentation. This game is perfect for developing quick thinking, adaptability, and communication skills, making it an ideal practice tool for classrooms, workshops, and professional development settings. It's a dynamic way to build confidence and sharpen essential presentation abilities!
How we built it
We used React, NextJS, and Tailwind to create the web app, GPT-4o for the randomly generated themes, and OpenAI's Whisper for the speech analysis.
Challenges we ran into
We were unable to get the speech analysis function connected to our web app in time.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
As beginner hackathoners, our #1 priority was to learn. We specifically wanted practice in creating a project from start to finish and learning how to collaborate on code. We learned a ton in both of these areas and feel empowered to build more in the near future!
What we learned
- A variety of technical knowledge - more about react, nextjs, tailwind, openai's api, speech analysis, etc.
- How to work with a team on code.
What’s next for Pitch Perfect
Powerpoint Karaoke is a super fun game, so we are excited to have a quality, free version available for us to use. In terms of the speech analysis function, we would love to see this built out and connected to the web app to harness the educational function of the game and allow for feedback on presentation skills.
