Inspiration

Job interviews can be stressful, especially for students and fresh graduates who may know what they want to say but struggle to communicate their answers confidently and clearly.

Most interview preparation tools focus on providing questions or sample answers. We wanted to build something more interactive — a tool that actually listens to the user, analyzes how they respond, and helps them improve.

That idea led to PitchMe – AI Voice Interview Coach, an AI-powered practice environment where users can simulate interview questions, answer using their voice, and receive personalized coaching.

What it does

PitchMe helps users practice job interviews through a voice-based experience. Users can:

  • Practice realistic interview questions
  • Record their answers using their voice
  • Have their responses analyzed by AI
  • Receive personalized feedback and coaching
  • Understand how they can improve their answers and communication
  • Track their improvement through repeated practice

Instead of simply telling users what a "good answer" looks like, PitchMe focuses on helping them improve their own responses.

How we built it

PitchMe was built as a mobile-first application using React Native and Expo.

The core experience follows a simple workflow:

Interview Question → Voice Response → AI Analysis → Personalized Feedback → Improvement

We designed the interface to keep the user focused on the interview rather than complicated navigation. The application handles the interview flow, voice recording, response processing, and presentation of the resulting feedback in a simple and accessible way.

We also tested the application on an Android emulator to validate the mobile experience and voice interaction.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was making the experience feel like an actual interview rather than a traditional question-and-answer application.

Working with voice interaction also introduced challenges around recording, playback, and testing audio behavior in a mobile environment.

Another challenge was presenting AI-generated feedback in a way that was useful without overwhelming the user. We wanted the feedback to be actionable — something a user could actually apply to their next answer.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of turning a common interview-preparation problem into an interactive AI experience rather than just another collection of interview questions.

PitchMe brings together voice interaction, AI-powered analysis, personalized coaching, and progress-oriented practice in one mobile application.

We're especially proud that the application can take a user from receiving an interview question to practicing a spoken response and getting personalized feedback in a single workflow.

What we learned

Building PitchMe taught us that creating an AI application is not just about integrating an AI model. The AI needs to fit naturally into the user's workflow and produce feedback that is understandable and useful.

We also gained hands-on experience with mobile development using React Native and Expo, voice-based interaction, application debugging, and testing an AI-powered experience in an Android environment.

Most importantly, we learned how much iteration is involved in turning an idea into a working product — from designing the user flow to testing the application and fixing unexpected issues.

What's next for PitchMe – AI Voice Interview Coach

We want to continue developing PitchMe into a more personalized interview-preparation companion.

Future improvements could include:

  • Role-specific interview questions based on a user's target job
  • Company-specific interview preparation
  • More detailed communication and delivery analysis
  • Personalized practice plans
  • Progress dashboards and improvement trends
  • Different interview modes such as HR, technical, behavioral, and managerial interviews
  • More advanced AI coaching based on previous responses

The goal is to make interview preparation something users can practice consistently, with AI acting as a personal coach throughout the process.
