Inspiration

Show producers often receive self-recorded performances with inconsistent framing, lighting, and backgrounds. We wanted a system that could apply one measurable delivery standard, automatically fix what is safely repairable, and give a specific reshoot request when it cannot. README

What it does

Stage Ready checks a recording against a shared output profile, chooses a bounded correction or retry, and verifies the finished result before delivery. Every recording ends as either a verified stage-ready clip or a specific reshoot request. README

How we built it

OpenCV 5 performs inspection, reframing measurements, DNN-based segmentation checks, and final verification on AWS Lambda. An agent on Amazon Bedrock chooses among allowed actions, while S3 stores artifacts, measurements, and traces. The current rendering stage uses our existing macOS video pipeline, with outputs cached by source hash. README

Challenges we ran into

The hardest part was making the system trustworthy rather than simply producing good-looking renders. We had to detect cases where the source did not contain enough visual evidence, keep fixes within measurable bounds, and make sure every correction was re-inspected. Evaluation also exposed real blind spots, including frozen-frame corruption and cases where pose preparation could reject a valid performer.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a working perception → decision → action → verification loop with OpenCV 5 and AWS, deployed a public demo, and evaluated it on 19 labelled cases. The demo shows three distinct behaviors: automatic repair, adaptive retry after a failed verification, and first-pass delivery.

What we learned

The most important lesson was that verification has to change what the agent does next. A successful render is not enough. We also learned that an LLM agent is not automatically better than deterministic rules: on our small evaluation set, both matched 17 of 19 expected outcomes. That made measured evidence, guardrails, and honest limitations more important than model sophistication alone.

What's next for Stage Ready

Next we want Stage Ready to handle completely new uploads end to end, move more rendering into the cloud, add explicit human approval and override controls, detect frozen or repeated frames, broaden the evaluation set, and validate additional output profiles beyond Red Curtain.
