Inspiration
The program was inspired by a news article stating that the newest episode of Game of Thrones was the most torrented item ever. This brought in the idea that pirate torrent information can be used for ranking media.
What it does
Our program features an top 25 trending list but also a search function which uses a handcrafted algorithm to determine a score. It resembles imdb or rotten tomatoes.
How we built it
We used javascript and tears (literal).
Challenges we ran into
Being able to update our information and parse info from a website which is not consistently running proved to be difficult. Being able to filter out text information that wasn't important proved another challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is our first project and it is a finished product. It has amazing potential to be used in market analysis and also commercially by people who just want to see whats trending.
What we learned
We learned CSS, html, and javascript.
What's next for Pirate's Booty
We hope to extend this rating system to movies, games, and other types of media. This can contribute to marketing data and consumer benefit.
