Inspiration

The inpiration came more from a frustation where:

  1. I had to go to my saved folders on IG to find the recipes i wanted
  2. I didn't like way current apps handle recipe parsing, where i have leave IG and wait for it

I wanted something simple enough to use and that would make it easier to cook recipes from my instagram.

What it does

The main selling point is our parsing, you can just DM a recipe reel to my app account and you get a notification when it's ready in the app. You can then search, filter and plan your week with the meals you save into the app. Of course, we also support other sources such as websites, tiktok and youtube.

How we built it

Flutter, RevenueCat, FCM, GCP, Golang

Challenges we ran into

The main one was syncing the receiving DMs to an app account, we did this through a code verification system that in the end worked surprisily well Parsing recipes was also a nightmare, since it depends on the creator how they write the recipe so some of the problems were for example missing ingredients, missing quantities, ingredients not present in the preparation steps, etc...

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being the easiest recipe app to use, it's just as sending a recipe reel to a friend but you send to the app account. It's easy to use, the onboarding explains well the app and the visuals are good.

What we learned

Monitoring is really important for apps that rely on AI for their main features, since so many things go wrong. We're using PostHog to monitor everything to make sure that most recipes get parsed

What's next for Pipori: Recipe Keeper

We're curretly waiting for review for the Appstore app and the next milestone is to implement the same DM support but for Tiktok.
