PipelineSage AI — Your Intelligent DevSecOps Engineer
Detect. Diagnose. Fix. Verify.
Inspiration
Writing code is only one part of software development. Developers also spend significant time diagnosing failed CI/CD pipelines, investigating security vulnerabilities, writing tests, and determining whether an application is safe to release.
We built PipelineSage AI to address this challenge by bringing intelligent, agent-driven automation into the post-code software development lifecycle. Our goal is to reduce repetitive debugging work, improve security practices, and help developers make better release decisions.
What It Does
PipelineSage AI is an AI-powered DevSecOps dashboard that helps developers analyze pipeline failures, identify potential security risks, generate tests, propose code fixes, and evaluate release readiness.
Its core capabilities include:
- Pipeline Analysis: Examines CI/CD logs and identifies probable root causes of failures.
- Security Review: Analyzes security scan findings and prioritizes potential vulnerabilities.
- AI-Powered Fix Suggestions: Recommends code changes and remediation steps for identified issues.
- Automated Test Generation: Generates relevant unit tests to help validate code changes.
- Release Readiness: Combines pipeline, testing, and security results to recommend whether a release is ready for review or should be blocked.
- GitLab CI/CD Integration: Connects analysis and validation workflows to the software delivery pipeline.
How We Built It
We designed PipelineSage AI around a lightweight, modular architecture using Python and Streamlit.
Streamlit provides the interactive dashboard, while Python handles log analysis, security findings, test generation, and release evaluation. AI agents assist with reasoning and remediation recommendations, and GitLab CI/CD provides the pipeline environment for automated verification.
The workflow follows a simple principle: detect a problem, diagnose its cause, propose a fix, and verify the outcome before recommending a release.
GitLab Duo Agent Platform capabilities—including agents, flows, triggers, or MCP integrations—are used to orchestrate the post-code automation workflow.
Challenges We Faced
One of the main challenges was designing an automation workflow that goes beyond generating AI recommendations. A useful DevSecOps system must validate proposed changes rather than assume they are correct.
We addressed this by separating diagnosis, remediation, testing, and release evaluation into distinct steps. Security findings and failed tests must remain visible, and unsuccessful validation should prevent an application from being marked release-ready.
Another challenge was balancing automation with human oversight. PipelineSage AI is designed around supervised execution, allowing agents to handle multiple analysis and verification steps while keeping important merge and production deployment decisions under human control.
What We Learned
This project helped us explore how AI agents can support software engineering beyond code generation. We learned the importance of structured workflows, CI/CD integration, automated security checks, test-driven validation, and clear evidence for release decisions.
We also learned that effective agentic automation requires defined permissions, reliable verification, and transparent reporting—not just a capable language model.
Future Scope
We plan to expand PipelineSage AI with broader lifecycle coverage, including artifact packaging, deployment configuration validation, runtime monitoring, automated rollback recommendations, and compliance reporting.
Our long-term vision is to make routine software delivery tasks more reliable, secure, and efficient while keeping developers in control of critical decisions.
