Inspiration
Fallout and Wallace and Gromit and Growing your own penguin via object detection
What it does
So it is the Fallout game wrist watch Pip Boy. It is also a Tamagotchi where you grow your penguin from a baby to the infamous Feathers McGraw. You take your watch and look after your penguin(it has life and health so don't kill it). when the penguin is hungry it says it's hungry and a receipt printer prints out its order. you then have to go and look for the item It wants in real life so he can grow and hopefully is raised not to become a villain. if you touch or poke him, his health declines.
How we built it
With a Raspberry Pi, a box of scraps from Tesco (cardboard), a touch screen, a Logi tech camera
Challenges we ran into
I solo a near-impossible project to do The Pip-boy case broke The Pi bios were corrupt The Pico doesn't like the Raspberry Pi hence the microcontroller Idea failed The Pi overheats so I have to manually cool it The receipt printer is compatible with Android and Mac, I had to hack the Linux out of it I didn't have enough power even with 2 power banks I was separated from my friends who were on a separate project because they fell really ill
AND YES DESPITE THE ISSUES IT WORKS WELL, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE 0 EXPERIENCE WITH A RASPBERRY PI, SOME WOULD SAY THIS HACKATHON HAS GROWN ME.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Literally learning all about the pi, it is my first time using it and I've never done a hardware hack with a pi before
What we learned
How to use API's I have never used one before
What's next for Pip x Feathers Mcgraw
More characters to look after like pepper pig
