Inspiration
There is a bunch of Instagram posts where people create their own physical version of the 'guess who' game by printing photos of their family or friends, ie https://www.instagram.com/p/DHUB8xyNyzl So I put a layer of technology on top of that.
What it does
You upload photos from your gallery The app detect faces and we set a game You invite a friend to join the game Each player selects a mistery character Each player tries to guess it by asking questions that have to be answered by the other player
How I built it
Ruby on rails on a website Hotwire native for the iOS app fetching the rails app Heroku on the hosting Revenuecat for billing, duh Google API vision to detect faces from photos ChatGPT for questions generation
Challenges we ran into
App store deploying, it was literally the first iOS app I deploy. I'm not even a full time dev in my day to day, just support engineer, with some ruby on rails experience, so all my experience so far was only in web development So many things to learn in xcode, app store management, revenuecat.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
App store deployment!
What we learned
Think twice before joining a hackathon of something you have not done ever before.
What's next for Pintaque
More improvements on the game itself: better questions, perhaps with a bastard LLM like Grok, and not a puritan like ChatGPT possibility to add audio messages speed performances detecting faces and creating games
