Inspiration
Current fitness apps focus on goal completion, whether that be weight loss, muscle gain, or something similar. We wanted our app to encourage exploration and foster mindfulness while outside, providing a more relaxed approach to physical activity and grounding the user within the world around them while ideally strengthening their sense of community.
What it does
Our app is called Ameepa, and it has four main functions. The main function is starting and tracking a run or walk, with an additional explore mode with a daily dare. While on explore mode, the user is encouraged to take photos of the world around them and interact with someone new. Whatever photos the user took while outside can be viewed from the exploration page, which highlights where they've been while recording their dare. The user can customize their meep, which is the character that is traveling the world with them and is their physical activity wellness buddy. Lastly, the user can also check their progress and consistency with staying active and view their total stats, with no negative reinforcement if a day is missed.
How we built it
We started by brainstorming digital product solutions related to the Figma Design track prompts, and ultimately decided on Option 1. We ideated features, pages, and character designs before sketching potential wireframes and the order of the pages. This lead us into wireframing and animating our final design in figma.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenges we encountered was our limited experience with Figma. As beginners, we initially struggled to understand how to effectively use its animation and prototyping tools, as well as how to apply branding. Navigating these features required a lot of trial and error, which slowed our workflow at times.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of our biggest achievements was how much we were able to learn about Figma in a short amount of time. During the course of this weekend, we obtained a greater experience with animation and effects than ever before in our previous studies. in particular, we are proud of the animations we produced and the application of visual components. Also, we are proud of the fact that we designed and built the entire project in 24-hours!
What we learned
Through this project, we developed a stronger understanding of Figma’s prototyping and interaction features, moving beyond static designs to create more dynamic and engaging user experiences. After completing this, we had learned how design concepts can be applied to create effective interactivity through various forms of animation and visual effects to improve overall user interface interaction.
