Inspiration
As a team of young women, we understand how scary the world can be. Although popular rideshares like Uber and Lyft screen their drivers, many women still often feel uncomfortable or unsafe during these rides when with a male driver. The fear women face is heightened if they are alone or out at night. At Pink On The Go, we hope to help women with this problem.
What it does
We created Pink on the Go as a rideshare platform for women, driven by female drivers who have passed intensive safety screenings. Our convenient app uses advanced safety technologies to ensure all of our riders feel safe at every moment of their ride.
How we built it
Using Repl, we created some sample code of functions that we would implement for this app. Many of these functions take in user input and use that input to carry our the functions.
Challenges we ran into
Since we don't know Swift or any of the various app development languages, we needed to find another way to showcase our computer science knowledge. Thus, using what we have learned in our Intro to Python class, we wrote several functions to carry out the operations of the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is our first hackathon as we are first-year CS majors. Going into this, we were all unsure of how a hackathon works. We're all really proud of how we were able to produce code about an idea we are all passionate about and showcase it to everyone.
What we learned
We learned what the logistics of a hackathon consists of and learned how to work as a team. Using our limited CS knowledge, we learned how to implement stuff we learned in class to solve real world issues
