Pingly chat interface
Welcome to pingly! Pingly is a very basic web-based chat-application.
What it does
- It allows users to chat which each other in realtime
- Pingly allows users to set their own username
- Pingly shows all other users online
How I built it
First I created an express.js project, set up some styling and started coding and researching how I could make a chat app like this.
Challenges we ran into
I have never worked with websockets before, so that was something new. As this project is not intended to be very big, I decided to use socket.io, but I also read and played around with regular websockets.
What we learned
I have learned how to use websockets, especially socket.io.
What's next for pingly
If I have some time, I may add features like showing who is typing at the moment and maybe add more moderation- and customization options.
