Inspiration
Online, self-paced learning offers flexibility, but it often comes with a hidden challenge: students struggle silently. While learning platforms provide instructors with engagement analytics, they rarely explain why learners are disengaged or confused.
Our idea was inspired by the Disco AI challenge at the UBC Product Management Club Product Sprint. We wanted to bridge the communication gap between learners and instructors by transforming silent confusion into actionable insights that improve the learning experience for everyone.
What it does
Ping! helps learners communicate confusion without interrupting their learning flow while giving instructors meaningful insights beyond traditional analytics.
The platform includes:
💬 An AI chatbot that answers learner questions instantly. 📌 A Ping feature that allows students to flag confusing moments for instructors. 📝 A feedback and notes section where learners can share suggestions to improve course content. 📊 Actionable insights that help instructors understand why learners struggle, enabling them to continuously improve their courses.
Rather than simply tracking engagement metrics, Ping! uncovers the reasons behind learner behavior.
How we built it
We rapidly prototyped Ping! using Lovable AI, leveraging prompt engineering and continuous iteration throughout the two-week product sprint. We refined the product through mentor feedback, user-centered thinking, and multiple design iterations to create an intuitive learning experience.
Challenges We ran into& for the future
One of the biggest challenges was scalability. While allowing learners to ask unlimited questions is valuable, it could easily overwhelm instructors in large courses with hundreds or even thousands of students.
Going forward, we'd like to explore AI-powered clustering and summarization so similar questions can be grouped together, allowing instructors to focus on the most impactful issues instead of individual submissions.
Accomplishments
We're incredibly proud that Ping! earned 3rd Place at the UBC Product Management Club Product Sprint.
During the competition, we presented our solution to 10+ experienced mentors and judges, receiving valuable feedback that validated both the problem we chose and our proposed solution.
What We learned
This sprint taught us that successful products begin with deeply understanding the user's pain points before jumping into solutions.
