We wanted to play around with Estimote proximity beacons, namely, doing a physical world quest where a person would use a smartphone to connect to beacons at a specific location and then proceed to the next riddle/level.

What it does

The app gives you a hint to the next location, where you are supposed to find a solution to the current level. When you enter the correct zone where the solution is located, you receive a notification to guide you to that solution. When you find the level's solution you are being transferred to the next level.

How we built it

We used Ionic framework to build both — android and web apps.

Challenges we ran into

  • Zero knowledge of Ionic framework prior to that project. Relatively steep learning curve for angular (Ionic uses it). Complicated process of including simple javascript into the project.

  • After about 8 hours into the hackathon, we found out that Estimote beacons would not work and we had to come up with another option. That option was android app built with Ionic.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learned a lot about iBeacons and beacons in general. Quite fun thing!

What's next for Pinscape

Catch some sleep and polish our skills in Angular and Ionic.
