What is the problem your solution addresses?

Our app addresses the challenge of how easily moments of joy slip by unnoticed. Following track 3, “After The Fact,” It aims to help people see the positivity that already exists in their lives by giving their memories a place to be remembered and revisited. Every time a user logs a meaningful moment, the app automatically saves the location and time. The user also has the option connect to other apps to photos, audio clips, weather details, and music tied to that memory. The posts will show up as pins on an interactive map once logged. As the map populates with memories across the country or world, users view their memories not as isolated moments, but a mosaic of joy, connection, and happiness. It creates a visual reminder that they’re surrounded by more good than they often realize.

Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem?

In a fast moving world, it’s easy to forget and lose track of positive moments. It’s a problem that our group resonated with strongly. Existing journaling apps rely heavily on writing, which can feel limiting or discouraging for people who reflect in different ways. Pin It makes remembering joy more accessible. By offering multiple ways to capture a memory, users can document experiences in whatever format feels most natural to them. Having a map view populated with pins of good memories also allows users to see that there’s joy all around, even if it doesn’t always feel that way. The minimalist and bubbly design makes the app approachable and friendly. This design helps people process their experiences comfortably and more authentically, aligning with Track 3’s focus on gaining insight, closure, and growth.

Inspiration:

Strava, BeReal, and DailyBean. These apps all foster connection and reflection by logging activities to be revisited and remembered.

What It Does:

Every time a user logs a meaningful moment, the app automatically saves the location and time. The user also has the option connect to other apps to photos, audio clips, weather details, and music tied to that memory. The posts will show up as pins on an interactive map once logged. As the map populates with memories across the country or world, users view their memories not as isolated moments, but a mosaic of joy, connection, and happiness.

How We Built It:

While brainstorming ideas for Track 3, we jotted down ideas based on our own personal struggles when it comes to reflecting on our experiences. We noticed that we had a harder time remembering our good memories, so we wanted to create an app that would help us do that. We also felt that existing journaling apps only give one way of recording or reflecting, which was through writing. However, that can often be discouraging, as people might prefer other methods of reflecting. Because of this we built our app with the intention to offer users multiple ways of recording their memories besides writing. We also felt that beyond feelings, our memories are associated with specific locations, music, weather, and objects, so we wanted to make sure all of that is included when someone tries to record a memory. We also chose a simple and warm UI design to make sure we don’t overwhelm our users. Pin color customization during entry creation also gives users the opportunity to further own their memories it in whichever way resonates best.

Challenges We Ran Into:

This was our first time using Figma, so we were learning the software as we went, but with each others’ help (and lots of Googling) we figured it out! There were also considerations for how to prioritize information, especially for the text hierarchy in each pin entry.

Accomplishments We’re Proud Of:

We originally planned to be on the Beginner track because we didn’t have much experience in Figma and app design. However, we ended up pushing our ideas far enough that we decided to switch to the Experienced track! We had a lot of fun fleshing out the concept, and enjoyed celebrating the small wins, such as creating a scrolling feature in our prototype.

What We Learned:

We learned more about how to use Figma, and also important considerations to make when designing for a variety of users with different and sometimes unpredictable behaviors and habits.

What’s Next for Pin It:

We might consider building out a social feature, where you can add friends and view their memories, or tag them in your own memories. It would help users stay connected and also remember the people in their lives who make their life brighter.
