Inspiration

I'm terrible at remember to take medication and so it seemed like an obvious choice to create a platform that reminds us.

What it does

The desktop application allows a user to input their personal information, different medications and the days and times at which to take them. In addition, the program can output the longitude and latitude of the user based on entered address. The program then reminds the user based on their inputs when to take the medication.

How we built it

We designed on paper the different functions we wanted and split into phases. Then for each phase created methods that each one of use focused on. We gathered to help each other when needed and critiqued at multiple periods during the day.

Challenges we ran into

We couldn't figure out how to get the GPS location of a laptop to be read into the program. No one knew GUI when we started this project in Java. Running a method in the background for the entirety of the program was another challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really happy with the amount we got done and the amount we learnt during this event. Also, trouble-shooting was a huge part of this journey that we embarked on.

What we learned

We learned how to use NetBeans, create GUI, File I/o, and have a method run in the background, especially keeping track of time and creating a timer. As well as, queueing events based on that time. And apparently you need try-catch statements for everything.

What's next for PillTimer

Figuring out how to implement the GPS location so we can remind user before stepping out of the house.
