Inspiration
We were inspired by the need to make managing medications easier, especially for the elderly or people with complex medical schedules. Missed doses or accidental overdoses can lead to serious health consequences, yet current solutions are often expensive, complicated or not personalized. We wanted to create a simple, affordable and reliable system that helps people take their medication on time without the stress of remembering every detail.
What it does
How we built it
We built PillPal using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend focusing on a clean, easy to read interface. While the back end uses python which powers the reminder scheduling and tracking.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled with making the UI simple but also looked personalized and satisfied for both of us. Handling different audio formats without slowing down the app was pretty hard as well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a working prototype that delivers personalized reminders in under 24 hours. The interface is clean, easy to use, and we’re proud that it can help people in a meaningful, everyday way.
What we learned
We learned the importance of designing for accessibility and non-technical users like the elderly. For instance, you might . Furthermore, we discovered new ways to handle audio playback smoothly in browsers.
What's next for PillPal
We're hoping to transform this into a mobile application that's more convenient for the users. For time purposes, this is currently accessible on web only.
