Inspiration

Games like Warioware, Katamari, Brainage, were all major influences on me. I've never played a lot of these titles, but their wacky themes really spoke to me a lot, especially as a kid. I find a lot of joy in those sort of oddities so I really wanted to try and reach for that a bit. And in the end I do think I captured something... not sure what yet but it's there.

What it does

It just has fun.

How I built it

I used Godot V4.2 to create my game. Godot is the only engine I've ever tried so I wasn't going to do anything crazy this time around. For some of the assets present in my game I used Libresprite, which I've found to be a really incredible tool.

Challenges I ran into

One major challenge I ran into that I certainly wasn't expecting was getting the character to move properly. My first thought was that a 'snake like' character controller would be the easiest part, leaving me with tons of time to work on other aspects of the project. Unfortunately that was not entirely the case... In the end though I'm content with how it went. It's really easy to get it to an okay point but it was such a challenge getting it to a point I felt comfortable and happy with.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This is my second game ever. And I can genuinely say that my first time around developing a game in Godot taught me a lot. Many of the mistakes and time sinks I faced last time weren't present this time around. Even when I got stuck on some things I worked on other crucial parts of project until my mind was cleared. I'm really proud of what I managed to accomplish today!

What I learned

I don't know if I learned too much technically while working on this, but I definitely learned a lot about myself; which is arguably better. A future working around games and creation is definitely one I can see myself thriving in.

What's next for PILLAR'd

It was really fun having this experience and being able to produce something that fun and enjoyable for me. Even if its not working directly with PILLAR'd I'm definitely going to keep my hand in gamdev!
