Inspiration

Because the prompt involved coming up with something that could improve an individual’s quality of life, we wanted to focus on the health aspect. We found that forgetting to take medicine or vitamins is a problem people of all ages suffer from, and we decided to come up with a solution for it.

What it does

Our device serves as a physical reminder for people who take these daily medicines or vitamins at scheduled intervals. It combines a countdown timer, LCD display, RGB lighting, and a buzzer that plays an attention-grabbing melody to alert users when it’s time to take their medication. A single button press silences the alarm, resets the timer, and restores the display, making it simple and reliable for daily use.

How we built it

We built it using an ELEGOO Arduino kit, and used tinkercad and Arduino IDE to test out our program and circuits. We also used duct tape and a pizza box to come up with a sleek prototype design.

Challenges we ran into

Issues when incorporating new circuits and getting the wires to connect correctly. For example, we were having issues with our LCD display not showing any words and it was because we had placed the pin for VO of our LCD incorrectly on the breadboard.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a hardware device that can applied to daily life, and for having come up with our sleek design within 24hrs

What we learned

How to incorporate new new circuits, using resistors, trying out a passive buzzer to use different memories. We also learned how to troubleshoot and debug hardware, and how to properly display items on an LCD board.

What's next for Pill Hunter

The next step would be to try and make it smaller and more mobile for easier transport in purses or bags.
