Inspiration

We are a group of students who have struggled ( and some may say are still struggling) to understand the tenets of financial literacy expected of us as young Adults. We hope to ease the transition from a bright eyed teenager to a confident and stable young adult by providing a simulated yet realistic experience of the opportunities and pitfalls that await us financially as we integrate into society.

What it does

PiggyBucks is a Gamified Financial Platform that aims to provide growing teens and young adults a first-hand experience of earning, investing and paying taxes without any real-world repercussions

How we built it

We built the first prototype, the layout of the platform, using a low code website that gives a brief overview of what it would look like. We used Figma, canva, html , js and css for the website. In the future the backend and databases will be in python, rust and SQL.

Challenges we ran into

Our Major Challenges were coming up with a revenue model for the platform, how to make kids use it and ways to make it more interactive. Another Major hurdle was how to connect the virtual currency to real world currency.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of this idea because we could figure out a way of connecting the virtual world with real world scenarios with all the three agents making money( the teens through vouchers and virtual DBs, the platform via ads and the companies that partner with the platform through their ad -boosted sales )

What we learned

We learned how to build an idea to a prototype in just 18-20 hours. As non finance students, we also learnt a lot about finance and the place it holds in our society. We also learnt a lot about just how money flows and works. Our key learning was learning to work as a team and respect people's opinions.

What's next for PIGGY BUCKS

Oh we are definitely building a scalable model and working on how to bring in Crypto into it. Also an effective way to cash in and cash out the DBs into real world currency/value is something we would like to crack. We think that's a naturally progressive direction for Piggy Bucks to be headed towards as it will help teens get the right knowledge and the know-how of the finance world with minimum damage to their real money :)
