Inspiration
After hearing PNC talk about their core value of Customer Focus, we decided we wanted to create a tool that made learning fun. We wanted the user to have a positive experience, but also gain something out of using our project. We discussed how none of us had learned basic financial skills in school. This is a very important topic that benefits children, parents, and society.
What it does
Our game encourages the user to learn about financial wellness. The goal is to reach the bank by answering questions correctly. It first prompts the user to read some information and then provides a question. If the user answers the question correctly, Piggy will move a step closer to the bank. The user will not win unless they answer all questions correctly.
How we built it
We used a combination of CSS, JavaScript, and HTML to create our game. We started with a basic HTML base and then built it from there. We added JavaScript later on to create functionality.
Challenges we ran into
Unfortunately, two of our group members decided they no longer wanted to participate in the Hackathon. They were working on the backend of the project and creating a chatbot out of an API to connect to our questions. We had to pivot our idea and come up with something else with less than half the time left.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud that we managed to complete the project in a short amount of time with a quick change of plans. We worked together and created a functioning game.
What we learned
We had to quickly learn a lot about JavaScript, CSS, and HTML. Half of us had experience with these languages and half of us did not. We learned a lot about GitHub and working on projects together. We also learned about APIs and Flask even though those components did not make it into our final projects.
What's next for PiggyBankers
We hope to continue working on our game and adding new components. We were working on a way to reward the user with "money" points for every correct question they answered. They would then be able to use these points to customize their avatar. We were also considering adding additional modules to the game for different areas within finance.
