Inspiration
As we enter adulthood, it becomes essential and necessary to develop money management skills, but it isn’t the most interesting subject to learn for many people. We aimed to make financial education more fun and interesting through a game.
What it does
Piggy’s Bank is an educational game that allows players to test and increase their knowledge of finances by answering questions in a multiple-choice format. The game starts with a set goal and each question answered correctly increments the amount of money the player has. At different milestones toward reaching the goal, the pig character also reaches different life and wealth stages.
How we built it
We started off by designing the interface in Unity and drawing the pig and growth stages in Clip Studio Paint. Afterward, we worked on making a script that would work on the quiz aspect of the game which would tell you if you were right or wrong and would increase the amount of money in your piggy bank. Then we added in the images of the pig and made them change after the money in the account had reached certain amounts.
Challenges we ran into
It was hard using Unity since nobody in our group had experience with it so we had to look for tutorials and help online. Even before we started the script, there were a lot of issues just creating the interface and getting all the components we needed to appear on the screen properly. Afterward, getting Unity to work with the script was particularly challenging.
There are times when the group members come into a disagreement of ideas or different ideas from the rest of the group members.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Designing and getting a working game completed within 24 hours of Technica Learning how to design something in Unity and getting the components to work together
What we learned
The finished product might be different from what we started with, sacrifices have to be made in order to keep the projects moving and finish in the given time frame. During the process of designing and coding the game, we have a better understanding of how Unity works and how we can use it on future projects.
What's next for Piggy's Bank
Add a function that allows the user to set their own goal financial goal Increase the number of questions Add different stages of growth for the piggy Add some level of animation to the game
