Inspiration

Research has shown that ever since the start of the pandemic people have been saving more of their disposable income. This is due to the fact that many businesses, restaurants, and other places are currently closed. However, in a post-COVID world when everything opens back up, budgeting will become more important than ever.

What it does

Piggy Budget is designed to make budgeting easier for those of all ages. It allows users to keep track of their spending, set limits/goals on specific categories, and obtain rewards by saving money!

Because we all know budgeting is not an easy task, Piggy Budget uses a mix of gamification and incentives to encourages its users to stay under budget and learn to be more money conscious.

Challenges we ran into

Early on we ran into a few challenges. After coming up with our idea, we originally wanted to create an iOS app using Swift. However, not everyone in the team had a Mac, so doing so would be somewhat difficult in terms of collaboration. In the end, we decided upon creating both a website and app prototype to accomplish our goals.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This being everyone's first actual hackathon, we learned a lot! Although our project might not be the most functional, we're very proud that we were able to come up with an idea and develop it in such a short period of time.

What's next for Piggy Budget

Ideally, in the future Piggy Budget would be able to securely connect to the user's bank account in order to be able to keep track of their spendings in real-time. Additionally, we'd love to implement a back-end server to make our platform more functional!
