Inspiration

As students, we frequently experienced firsthand the frustrations of inefficient parking systems and the lack of effective communication between cities. We realized cities urgently needed better tools to aggregate and interpret data for informed decision-making, prompting us to create Data Pigeon.

What it does

Data Pigeon features advanced curbside sensors that accurately detect parking occupancy. This real-time data is seamlessly aggregated into an intuitive, accessible dashboard, empowering cities to manage parking effectively and collaborate effortlessly across jurisdictions.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating Snowflake's powerful yet complex API was particularly challenging. Navigating the extensive functionalities required rapid learning and adaptability, pushing us to quickly gain proficiency to leverage its full potential.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of developing highly accurate hardware sensors with reliable detection capabilities. Additionally, creating a robust, comprehensive frontend UI powered by real-world parking data from San Francisco's metered zones marked a significant milestone for our data aggregation pipeline.

What we learned

This project reinforced our ability to quickly adapt and learn new technologies. Building an MVP under time constraints taught us invaluable lessons in efficient project management, rapid problem-solving, and continuous learning.

What's next for Data Pigeon

We envision Data Pigeon as more than just a hackathon project. Our goal is to deploy this solution in cities to provide a sustainable, user-friendly platform, streamlining parking management and facilitating data-driven decisions that enhance urban mobility.
