Inspiration

The inspiration for this project was the insecurity of ISPs. One of the members in our team is constantly and tragically under 24/7 ISP surveillance, with little to no privacy or security in his everyday life. We wanted to be able to give him a chance to enjoy chatting and sending images privately withotu being stalked by his parents, his parent's company, and the government.

What it does

Pigeon is a mini-router that is designed solely for LAN connections between individuals. It's designed not only to allow individuals to communicate without privacy violations, but also to avoid high expenses and highly complicated software and processes. It allows people to access these extremely private and secure systems without needing immense technological knowledge or money.

How we built it

There are a few key parts of this design. For our hardware, we used an ESP-32 in order to host a website and allow users to connect themselves to it. The backend was coded on a combination of this device (handling connections, being able to swap modes to transfer files) as well as backend on a server (which allows you to encode and hash the files that you wish to send

Challenges we ran into

We went through a lot of struggles and challenges both in hardware and software. For the software, we struggled to create a front-end whicih was polished off and easy to use, because none of us are front end deveopers. Our back end was severely detrimented by the design of our server. Also, a teammate just couldn't come.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're very proud of the backend taht we coded. None of us are extremely experienced in creating large file and website structures.

What we learned

We learned that documentation and design are probably one of the most imporant things in big projects like these. For this project, everything just kind of snowballed together, causing a very lucky break as we had very strong technologica l advancements

What's next for Skiberders - PIGEON COMMUNICATIONS

We want to build a radio tower and install an eiffel tower in canada to increase the range of our communciation
