India produces a staggering 3.3 million tonnes of plastic waste, and 77% of this waste ends up in open dumps and side roads. Only 5% is recycled, but why do people throw plastic in open areas or side roads? And the main reason is that there is no motivation or any encouraging factor that will drive people to use dustbins. For example, I am anup, I ate a packet of potato chips, and as the dustbin is about 40 meters away, and I don't have any strong reason to walk to the dustbin and instead I will simply throw the chips wrapper in the roadside and imagine when more than a billion people do the same.

So the only way to achieve sustainable management of plastic waste is by changing the people, by motivating them to do the right thing, so we talked about the problem, that the people don't have any strong reason to throw plastic in the dustbin, so here comes our solution PID( plastic ID), an android application that rewards the user for throwing plastic in the dustbin motivating a whole generation towards a good path.

Now let me explain how it will work. For example, I am anup, and I am eating a packet of chips and once the packet is empty, I will open the app. The app will tell me the dustbins (government-built dustbin ) nearest to me; all I have to do is go to the dustbin, and once I reach the 1-meter range of dustbin, the app will ask me to scan the QR /barcode of the chips wrapper. All you have to do is scan the barcode of the chips wrapper and throw the wrapper inside the dustbin. Within 24 hours, your reward will be available ( in the reward, you will have coupons and vouchers from different companies ). Also, the app will show you your rank in the locality, which will create competition among the user to scan and throw as much plastic as possible.

But you must be thinking, what if the user doesn't throw the plastic in the dustbin, so 1st of all, the scan will only open when the user is within 1-meter range of the dustbin( government allocated dustbins in your localities, not the home dustbin ), so the user can't just scan it sitting at home he has to go to the dustbin. When a person walks to the dustbin, there is no way he can't throw the plastic inside. But what if the person throws the plastic outside? There comes our system. When a person scans the Barcode, the code is now allocated to the user itself, and if the user throws the wrapper outside of the dustbin. If someone else comes and scans it, it will show the person who scanned the wrapper 1st and the 2nd user who scans it and can place a complaint which will terminate the reward of the 1st user. Our future vision is to organize parathons ( plastic collecting marathons) where everyone will collect wrappers, bottles, and other plastics materials. With our system, we aim to make people understand the importance of waste management and maintaining cleanliness. This habit will be passed on to the next generation.
