Inspiration
We wanted to do something unconventional that still represents a technologically viable product
What it does
This project simplifies the submission of insurance claims
How we built it
Docker We used generative AI predominantly for the Frontend visuals
Frontend:
- React + typescript
- Vite
- Tailwind & Daisy
- React-konva
Backend:
- FastAPI
- SQLAlchemy + PostgreSQL
- EasyOCR with OpenCV
- Pillow
- Google-genai
Challenges we ran into
- Gemini API
- DNS Problems
- Merging
- Dependencies
- Nix
- Formatter
- Docker images taking 30 minutes to build
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We developed a module that was able to locate and crop faces, and even rotate them to be level. We didn't end up using this, however we would have, were it not complication with the gemini. The code is there, but without the gemini API, it had no use, leading to us having to fall back to placeholders.
What we learned
- You need to prepare in advance
- Review tools in advance
- Standardise naming
- Standardise tool chains
- Learned loads about web development and APIs
What's next for Picto Insurance
More sophisticated report generation and turning it into a full insurance portal
Finishing the facial generation system would also be very fun, despite it probably not being the main business focus,.
