Advert at a lake photo location
PicPerfect's inspiration was based off of those iconic Instagram photo locations like the bubblegum wall at Disney Parks or even the Eiffel Tower. PicPerfect was inspired to bring more visitors to these iconic locations.
What it does
PicPerfect allows users to find cool areas to take pictures around the world and locally.
The locations can be catered to General and Recommendations based off prior searches, users location and those they are following.
A Bucket List allows users to save locations they would like to visit.
Integration of Google maps with the locations(under progress)
How we built it
Apify, CSS3, docker, express.js, HTMl, node.js, react.
Challenges we ran into
As inspired by Instagram's iconic photo locations our team wanted to use Facebook API's to build PicPerfect, however, we were unable to access the data we needed. We solved this problem by using Tumblr instead.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even though it took us a while to figure out that the instagram apis are depreciated and cannot be used more, we had to shift gears to use tumblr and scrape the web to populate our database.
We were a team of 4 hackers who were each in a separate time zone and we are glad to successfully hack together and build together our project.
We all maintained well self-care throughout the hackathon.
We divided the work between ourselves understanding the skillset our members had.
What we learned
We were able to develop more on our web development skills (mostly React and express) and understand concepts of web scraping and Rest APIs’.
What's next for PicPerfect
- Integration of Google maps with the locations
- PicPerfect will be looking into app development in the near future.
- PicPerfect will soon allow users to post photo locations along with location information (rather than only through tumblr).
